Nude Figure Drawing 2, 2017

Charcoal, 22 x 16 in. This nude figure drawing was created at a live figure drawing studio during a 2017 summer art program at the University of Pennsylvania. This piece was charcoal on paper, and one of the first times that I had used erasers and kneaded erasers to establish bright moments and highlights on […]

The Broken Monarch, 2017

Sculpture Though I have dabbled occasionally in sculpture and graphic design, my premier experiences have been in drawing and painting. Thus, when I was only allowed wooden skewers, hot glue, acetate film and a stiff tulle-like material for an art project, I was lost. However, instead of giving up, I persevered. I took inspiration from […]

Cracked, 2017

Charcoal pencil and powder on paper, 24 x 18 in. This piece was another challenging drawing for me. As I typically created portraiture with acrylic paints, I was outside of my comfort zone when I drew this still-life animal skull with charcoal. I used charcoal powder and reductive technique, both of which were new to […]

A World Of Color, 2017

Acrylic on canvas, 7.75 x 9.5 in. A World of Color was my experimentation with color. This piece was a self-portrait that was rendered by looking through a mirror and copying what I saw in my reflection. I wanted to really play with the colors in my appearance, giving myself colorful hair and blue eyebrows.

The Reflection, 2018

Acrylic and oil paint on canvas,14 x 11 in. The purpose of this introspective painting was to elicit self-reflection, not only on the part of the artist but also on the part of the viewer. The color contrast, existing between the dull grays and the pops of color in the self-portrait is intended to force […]

Hand, 2017

Hot Glue, Wooden Skewers This Sculpture was my geometric rendering of a person’s forearm and hand in an outstretched position. I had created this sculpture by heavily referring to my own arms, and replicating what I saw in the form of wooden skewers. I ultimately let the fingers of the sculpture retain their flexibility, as […]

Nude Figure Drawing 5, 2017

Ink wash and charcoal on watercolor paper, 10.5 x 7.5 in. As it was my first experience at a figure drawing studio, I was uncomfortable with the union of nudity and art. Each facet of creating this piece was new to me; I had never produced an ink drawing nor had I worked from a […]

A Philadelphia Skyline, 2017

Pencil and graphite powder on paper, 18 x 23 in. As a person who typically focuses his art around portraiture, this landscape piece was challenging for me. Portraits are very organic and free form. However, landscapes are entirely different. Skylines, composed of buildings and industrial monuments, are especially geometric and structured. However, I was able […]

The Naval Officer, 2017

Acrylic on canvas,14 x 11 in. I have to admit, I was not the happiest when my sister decided to attend the United States Naval Academy. Nevertheless, I wanted to show my support for her endeavors and painted for her a portrait of our beloved pug, Ranger, as if he were a Naval officer. It […]
